Skulking down dark alleyways? No, just going to the panto. more...

Day 207

A frosty winter day in the Lake District.

I blame my mother for my current obsession with sheep.

Sunset over Windermere.

I'm learning to knit! more...

Nineteenth century graffiti at Kirkstall Abbey. more...

Day 204

We had a lovely Boxing Day walk at Bolton Abbey in the Dales.

A couple more sheep pics:

And a couple of the Abbey:

And the view from the Priory:

Flaming the Christmas pud. more...

Day 202

Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at York Minster. Fantastic! more...

Day 201

I tortured my poor jetlagged parents by making them help decorate the Christmas tree. Fortunately (?) there aren't many decorations, as most of my Christmas things are still in storage in the US.

My mother says it's a hidden picture game: can you find two birds, six coloured ornaments, and eight icicles? more...

Day 200

Leftover pumpkin rice pudding for breakfast. Hey, why not?! more...

Day 199

In a fit of insanity, I decided it would be fun to go get our Christmas tree at Duncombe Park in the North York Moors. Unfortunately, a fire in a village that closed the road, our propensity for getting lost, crazy drivers (including a bus that rear-ended us), and the narrow, steep, winding roads in the moors made it rather more "fun" than we'd bargained for. My nerves may not recover for a week.

But the tree is lovely. more...

Day 198

Today is a turning point for me, I hope - finally getting treatment for the depression I've struggled with for several years.

I'm saying this here because this project has been a great help to me over the last 198 days, and I'm grateful to the community of friends I've shared it with. Hopefully the next 167 days will be even better!

And just 'cause I liked this pic, here's another kind of antidepressant: plant therapy! more...

Day 197

This is not what I ordered. Grrrr. more...

Thursday, 18 December 2008

Day 196

This week's theme was "favourite things". You might have gathered that white dishes are one of my favourite things - I collect them like some women collect shoes! This is possibly my favourite piece of all. It's a teapot made by the English potter Polly George, and I adore it. more...

Day 195

Getting artsy with supper. more...

Tuesday, 16 December 2008

Day 194

Time to come out of the airing cupboard, methinks! more...

Monday, 15 December 2008

Day 193

The bus driver refused to accept this coin, claiming it was fake. I didn't have another one, so I had to count out £1 in 20p, 10p, 5p, and 1p coins, which seemed a fitting revenge.

I was irritated enough to take it to the bank, and the guy there said it was fine. more...

Day 192

When I saw the theme for the week was "entryways," I immediately thought of this, although I couldn't get over to take a picture until today. It's an odd little diagonal passage near our house - quite surreal! But a useful shortcut. more...

Day 191

And here's the result! Not quite magazine-worthy, but it tasted pretty good. more...

Friday, 12 December 2008

Day 190

Jeremy's at a work dinner tonight, so I decided to bake this for tomorrow, which happens to be St. Lucia Day. Having discovered that my great-grandfather was Swedish, I can pretend I'm celebrating my heritage. Hey, any excuse for yummy treats will do, right? more...

Day 189

I'm knackered after a long day at work today, so here's a slightly uninspired photo of the donkey from my nativity set. I bet the donkey was knackered, too, by the time they got to Bethlehem. more...

Wednesday, 10 December 2008

Day 188

Finally got this finished! Now I just have to get to the post office. By next Christmas, if all goes well, I should officially be Canadian. more...

Tuesday, 9 December 2008

Day 187

The airing cupboard seems to have done the trick! It's hard to see in this photo, but there's a leaf and, I think, another bud coming up. Woohoo!

Moby had to "help" me take the picture. more...

Monday, 8 December 2008

Day 186

8.00 AM. Ten minutes before sunrise. And sunset was at 3.45 PM.

Two more weeks... more...

Today's project. more...

Saturday, 6 December 2008

Day 184

We saw a couple of Salvation Army bands today while we were out shopping. They sounded fantastic! more...

Friday, 5 December 2008

Day 183

We spent half our Christmas budget on this olive wood nativity set when we were young and poor (well, younger and poorer, anyway), and I still absolutely love it. It's the first decoration I get out every year, and the only one we shipped over to the UK.

(There are other pieces, too; perhaps I'll photograph them as the season goes on.) more...

Thursday, 4 December 2008

Day 182

Coloured Christmas lights in a window on my street. This would have been better if they hadn't turned on the inside light at the same instant that I took the photo! more...

Wednesday, 3 December 2008

Day 181

We had another dusting of snow, yay! And today I managed not to slip and fall on my way to work. more...

Tuesday, 2 December 2008

Day 180

Not much progress to report today. I think the windowsill might have been too cold, so I've popped it back in the airing cupboard for the time being. more...

Monday, 1 December 2008

Day 179

Another uninspired Monday = another cat photo. more...
